DAY 106~12/29/21
I walked a total of 15.5 miles today. Joan took the day off. Greg joined in walking for 2.2 miles after lunch. A good 4 mile section of today’s route was on a busy four-lane highway through Rockport with no shoulder. It was pretty stressful going but the cars were so cooperative and moved over into the other lane to allow me a little path to walk. I’m so grateful for courteous drivers! Thank goodness for that!!
Paige joined us for lunch at Paradise Key Dockside Bar & Grill in Rockport. It had an awesome view of the bay and marsh area. Greg and I had chicken Caesar salad and Paige had two Mai Tai’s. She did have food but I don’t remember what lol.
A kind man in a GMC truck stopped and asked if I needed a ride. I told him I was on a pilgrim walk and he just said well all right and started to drive away but before he did I put my hand on my heart and said I appreciate you stopping it means a lot.
I crossed an intersection and a truck was waiting at the light. A dog was spilling out of the window calling to me with its absolute cuteness!! I couldn’t resist snapping its picture while the owner watched beaming from ear to ear.
I actually broke down sobbing in the car with Greg after todays completion. We were waiting for the ferry and it just hit me. I walked here for my mom. The emotions are overflowing right now. One final day.
For dinner Greg, Paige and I went out to Tortuga Salt Water Grill. It had a wonderful upper scale atmosphere and delicious food. We will come back here in the next few days with other family members that’s for sure. Once again I broke down crying as Greg was telling the waiter my story. I guess it’s getting real that I am actually at the finish line. I did this! Unbelievable.
Today I got a text from a really good friend, Vern Hartl, with a meme quote that really spoke to me. Tonight at dinner Paige said she had to show me some thing that she thought I’d really like and it was the exact same meme quote! How cool is that! See pic below.
Walking back into our hotel room tonight I was greeted with an absolutely gorgeous sympathy bouquet of flowers from my employees for the loss of my dad. So very thoughtful and kind. I’m so grateful for each of them. They are my family and have kept the stores running beautifully despite my absence. Without them, none of this would be possible.
