DAY 103~12/26/21

I walked a total of 16.5 miles today. For the first time I actually got to start walking right out of the hotel room as it was so close to our finish spot on Friday. Greg joined in for the first 1.3 miles this morning then turned around and walked back to the hotel. Joan decided to take the day off. Paige took the morning and afternoon off and rested her foot since she’s in such pain with her ankle. Surgery is only weeks away now. She has been doing so much support for us. And I’m so glad she’s here passing through the pain for the finish!

An older gentleman in a pick up truck went by slowing down as he passed me looking in what seemed to be concerned manner making sure I was OK. I didn’t notice but he has stopped up the road and it took me a good 10 minutes to get to him but he was waiting to ask and make sure I was OK. How sweet is that!

Another deputy from the county sheriff’s department stopped in the shoulder. This time it was a woman. She asked if I was just out walking. I told her the story and she said well that’s pretty awesome. She said I just wanted to make sure you didn’t need a ride. I said well I’m really tempted to because I’m pretty tired about right now. (I had about 8 1/2 miles at that point). She said I’d be happy to give you a ride up the road? I said no that would be not finishing but I sure appreciate the offer! I asked her if it’s always this windy around here, saying it’s gotta be 20 to 25 mile an hour winds and they’re about blowing me over. She said yes unfortunately it’s like this almost every day. She wished me luck completing my journey. I love knowing there’s so much support out there. Just an awesome feeling!

We ate lunch at the same spot we had lunch on Thursday, which was the Bayside Seafood Restaurant. I loved the shrimp fried rice so much I had to go back. An older gentleman was eating at a table near us and when he was leaving he came over to tell me he liked my hat. He said he has a hat that’s from Australia. I said this hat is from Canada. He said are you from Canada? I said no I’m from Wisconsin and I then told him the story. He was so friendly and we visited for a few minutes before he left. He wished me luck the rest of the way.

We had leftovers for dinner and played three more games of dominoes. I guess we had too much fun last night and wanted a repeat. Time for some shut eye. It was a big and fun filled day.

The countdown continues to the finish line. Hard to believe it’s under 60 miles now!!
