DAY 24 ~ 10/8/21
Walked a total of 14.9 miles today. Joan joined the entire day. We walked 10.6 miles before stopping for lunch and 4.3 miles after lunch. For lunch Clarence made grilled ham and cheese sandwiches!
I was really tired again for the second half of the day. I had to really push through and give it everything I had to finish.
We are still 10 miles or so north of Springfield Illinois. We will walk in tomorrow. We’re both so excited.
As we approached Greenview Illinois there was some construction where there was only one lane allowed to pass through at a time. A semi truck had his window down and shouted out the window as he passed through his green light and said “All the way to Greenview?!?” We shouted back “No all the way to the ocean in Texas!” He said “What? Are you kidding me?? He then put his fist out the window as he continued by and first pumped us. He had the biggest smile I’ve seen in a long time!!
We said goodbye to Leisure Oaks RV Park in Bartonville Illinois. It was a very nice place to stay. Beautiful grounds with gorgeous old trees. Moved on to our first KOA of the trip in Springfield Illinois this afternoon after the completion of our walk day. This is another beautiful campground surrounded by trees!
My 93 year old dad called today but I didn’t hear the phone ring. He left a 4 minute voicemail with an idea he had. He is a smart and sharp cookie. I love him so much! He thought we should reach out to the shoe company that I use for my walking. I have six pair of Brooks running/walking shoes. I rotate and switch out to a different pair every day. I purchased the same shoe but in different colors. This way I have a different color shoe every day LOL. I even used these shoe for all my training this summer. He thought they might want to get in on the action for some advertising or maybe could sponsor me? Maybe give a donation to my fundraising efforts? I reached out to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation to see what they thought, and they thought it was a great idea too and are going to give it a shot. I’ll keep you posted!!!
Tonight I made my roasted veggies and crispy potatoes and Clarence grilled delicious pork chops for dinner. Another day in the history books!!
