DAY 74 ~ 11/27/21
Joan and I walked a total of 15 miles today. It was the coldest day walking so far. The wind was gusting in our faces and there was a drizzle/slight rain all day. The temperature was in the mid 40s all morning and maybe rising to mid 50s by the afternoon. We walked on US 59 South the entire day. With the rain, it felt like we were at the semi spray water park! I’m telling y’all you never need to pay for a water park ever again, just follow my lead!
A father and his son pulled into a driveway and asked if we needed a ride. We told them the story and the father said wow., well welcome to Texas! That’s not the first time we’ve heard that. It’s so friendly here! We talked for a few minutes. He said they were at the in-laws for a second Thanksgiving. The son piped up proudly and said “They’re my grandparents!” He suggested we should go father down to Brownsville. I said I think when I get to Port Aransas I’ll be done walking!! He laughed and said he meant to drive there.
Another man pulled onto the shoulder and asked if we were going to Marshall (we were about 6 miles north) and he asked if we needed a ride. We told him we were on a pilgrimage walk, he said OK and drove off.
I got my booster shot today. I’m very glad to be fully vaccinated, and now boosted! Especially with cases of Covid soaring again!!!
I took a picture that doesn’t do the real thing justice. I’ve never seen a forest so thick with trees. So many trees with barely space in between. It really was magnificent. I really didn’t expect to see so much beauty on this cross country journey. Google maps walking isn’t a bad path at all!!
