DAY 87 ~ 12/10/21

Joan and I walked a total of 15.8 miles today, all on highways. We crossed a gorgeous river called Trinity River. We ended the day by walking into Huntsville. It’s big! Seems to have quite the metro footprint, but maybe I am used to walking through tiny little towns so this just looks big compared to what I’ve been seeing.

It was the windiest day of the journey so far, by far, with 20 mile an hour winds and 40 mile an hour gusts. We were into the wind so we definitely felt the extra work required to push through. It was hot again today at 82° and the humidity was higher with the sun peaking out from time to time. We were hot, but thank goodness for the wind which kept us cooler!!!

We got back to the RV for lunch and Clarence commented on the gusty winds and said “I was driving to our pick up spot and all of a sudden I was in the left lane!” So grateful for his taking the wheel responsibility. He does a great job!

We were just pulling into our lunch spot where the RV was parked and an Ideal Lease 26 foot truck pulled into the same space, after the two men in it passed us smiling and waving. When we got to the RV the two gentleman said “We’ve seen you walking a lot and a long Way, God bless you! I like the hat!” The man’s smile just filled me up with joy. They gave fist pumps and kept waving and smiling as they pulled back onto the highway. Made my day!

We treated ourselves to dinner out tonight eating at Double Dave’s Pizzaworks in Huntsville. It was delicious!! There was a family celebration around the end of their kids soccer season that we couldn’t help but overhear so when they left Joan asked them about it. Then she shared our story. Their facial reaction was priceless. Eyes opened wide. Mouth opened to the O position. Just pure amazement. They wanted a selfie with us in it so I took a selfie of them with Joan and I in it too. So fun!

The radio interview this morning went really well. It was pretty cool!

Tonight I found out that I ended up on the front page of my hometown newspaper, The Devils Lake Journal. My brother Greg forwarded me the article. (Picture below). That is so unreal and actually blows my mind. This is quite the ride!!
