DAY 86 ~ 12/9/21

Joan and I walked a total of 15.9 miles today. The first 7 miles was all on a paved road with very little traffic. The rest of the day we moved onto gravel country roads which were secluded, quiet, and in the beautiful forest. The surface of the gravel road was like sand and felt like paradise under our feet!

Clarence was going to pick us up along this gravel road route but we crossed a bridge that was under construction and the RV would have never made it through the muddy mess. We called catching him in time to re-route to another pick up point thank goodness!

It was another great day of walking. We had some hot weather with 82°, but there was a good breeze and it was cloudy most of the day so it kept us cooler than it could’ve been otherwise.

We saw lots of animals, including a herd of donkeys. Okay there were only four but that’s still a herd right?

At the very end of the day, steps away from our ending spot, a farmer was on a four wheeler outside of his entrance. He asked us what we were up to. We told him the story and he said no way at least three times. He was fun to joke around with so I asked if he’d give us a lift to Highway 230 (our end point which I knew was really close). He shook his head no and said that it was only a quarter mile up the road. I said man you have no mercy. He said well you’ve already walked 1000 miles, 1/4 mile is nothing. We laughed!! It was very fun interacting with him.

We moved further down the road again to a new RV park today called Great Escape RV Park. We only have four more moves before our final resting spot at on the beach RV park in Port Aransas! Unbelievable.

We will all be getting up earlier than normal tomorrow because I have an in studio live radio interview at KSAM-FM in Huntsville starting at 8 am. How exciting! I have to calm down now and get some rest in order to prepare for what tomorrow brings. Each day is such a blessing. Can’t wait!!
