DAY 85 ~ 12/8/21
Today I walked in honor of Amy’s mother, Lucy Ireland. I texted Amy this morning to let her know and she texted back “Now you’re going to make me cry!” As I shared yesterday, her mom died of pulmonary fibrosis. Looking up her obituary, she died 10 years ago. Her daughter Amy is a spittin image of her! Just beautiful. I felt honored to carry her in my heart today!
South of Crockett we were walking on a peaceful farm road admiring two horses trotting and galloping together in a huge field. I thought maybe they wanted us to come over to say hi but when we approached they galloped away kicking their heels up. It was so wonderful to see horses galloping free. As we were standing watching, an old Toyota Tacoma pick up pulled up beside us in the shoulder. The gentleman said “Do you mind if I ask what you are doing?” Little did I know we were standing in front of his property, but I said we were admiring those beautiful horses. He then said “This is the third time I’ve seen you walking. I also saw the RV. Now that you’re standing in front of my house, I have to ask where are you walking to?” Wow three times is a record!! I told him the story and we visited with him a few more minutes. He wished us luck in our final stretch getting to my mom!
A man stopped in a white Silverado truck and asked if we needed a ride. We said no thank you he said “oh you’re out walking, OK, you be careful with the cars!”
Today was another first. We had a cat come running from down the road towards us. It was super talkative and very friendly! After petting it a few minutes it was time to go., but it didn’t want to say goodbye quite yet. It walked with us for at least 5 minutes before giving up. So sweet!!
Lots of dogs today too. And some unique and gorgeous wildflowers. It was a very nice walk day overall!!
I am in the final 20 day countdown of walking days required to reach Port Aransas. I simply cannot believe it!
