DAY 69 ~ 11/22/21
I got to sleep in this morning. What a great feeling. Rested in bed for an hour before getting up to throw on some comfortable clothes before Greg picked me up at 8:30. We went to a breakfast spot called Sue N Carol’s Restaurant. Had some delicious hashbrowns!
We then spent the rest of the morning tracing our walking route for tomorrow to find out the exact mileage to the Texas state line. I wanted to know how long it will take us to walk there tomorrow. I also wanted to see if there was a welcome to Texas sign at our crossing point. Unfortunately there is not. We spent the next chunk of time finding the nearest highway that would potentially have one. We guessed right on our first try. We figured out what on ramp intersection would give us the best and quickest access to the sign. We then mapped out a route from our walking crossing point to the sign on the highway and then back to our walking crossing point. The plan is for Clarence and Greg to pick us up in Greg’s car at our crossing point, drive us to the sign on the highway, take some pictures and then drive us back to our walking crossing point. We have to have a picture of us in front of the welcome to Texas sign! Greg will head back to Austin when we’re done with that and he takes Clarence back to the RV.
Then Greg and I searched for a cookie place. The first place we tried was an abandoned building. The next place we tried was open according to the website listed hours, but when we got there they were closed because they were out of cookies. The third place we went to again said they were open according to the hours on their website, but when we pulled up the door was locked even though there was an open sign in the window turned to the open side of the sign. Do you think the Cookie Monster was out to get us? Maybe!! We finally ended up at Julie’s Deli and Market. I got some scrumptious snickerdoodle cookies. We also split an order of deviled eggs, which is my favorite! We both said they were definitely not as good as moms!
This afternoon we did some more exploring around Texarkana. I took some pictures and we drove by a couple of recommended things to see. One of them was the Perot Theater. The box office was open but the theater was closed. We talked to the two super friendly employees at the box office and they were kind enough to let us in the theater to see it. Taylor gave us a tour. I told them my story and they seemed super moved by it. Rashinda asked about our donation page, wanted to give me cash, but I said everything needed to go through the foundation so I gave her the link to my donation page. How sweet is that! She also gave us a recommendation for dinner tonight, the twisted Fork.
Greg then did a little shopping for some walking shoes. He tried out my Brooks brand and loved them so bought a pair!
Then we went to the movies!! We watched King Richard. I am such a tennis fan and fan of the Williams sisters, especially Serena! We both thoroughly enjoyed it!!!
We ended the night at the recommended restaurant from today, the twisted Fork. We split a salmon dinner with two sides brussels sprouts and macaroni and cheese and also their nachos appetizer. The mac & cheese was the best I’ve ever had. Brussels sprouts were fantastic. Salmon was really good. And the nachos were almost equal our favorite place at home. It was fantastic.
The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation reached out to me regarding a Texarkana radio station that was interested in an interview. It’s set up for tomorrow morning at 7:30 am. How exciting!! Time to get my beauty rest!!
