DAY 89 ~ 12/12/21
Joan and I walked a total of 15.5 miles today. The weather was absolutely perfect. Mid 50° temperatures, no wind, and beautiful blue skies! Most of the day we walked on a road that took us through the Sam Houston National Forest. It was breathtakingly beautiful!
My feet felt great until the last couple of miles. My right heel started to feel discomfort again. If it’s just the last few miles every day, that I can handle. These miles are sure taking a toll on my feet! Oh and Paige did some more research, and some family members reached out to her that have planter fibroma growths. Sounds like people just live with them, especially if they’re not causing issues. It’s in my arch, which isn’t hurting, so I will wait to have it looked at when I get back in January.
At the beginning of the day we were walking along the highway and came upon a dead dog. Joan said she heard some thing back a ways that sounded like a car hitting something but didn’t see it. The blood was red. I touched the neck to give her a pet of sorrow and to see if she was warm and she was. The noise Joan heard was this dog being hit by a car! I just broke down crying. We turned back and walked to the first house we found. No one answered the door but there was somebody next door walking around behind their house. They sounded like they were calling for a dog. It took me several yells to get the man’s attention but I yelled asking if he was looking for a dog. When he said yes, it just broke my heart to tell him his dog had been hit by a car. He ran to the highway. I didn’t think about it until right now but he might have thought there was still hope that she alive. There was no hope when he got there. He knew. He looked at me and said “I just let her out a moment ago!” I didn’t stop crying for at least 10 minutes. I’m still welling up with tears as I write this. The dogs name was Angel. She was loved.
It wasn’t until we got out of the National Forest and back to residential areas that we saw a few other animals. They got some extra special love from me today!
