DAY 13 ~ 9/27/21
Today had the greatest plans but my little precious Ruben threw a wrench in them. He was up all night with diarrhea and throwing up. I don’t think I slept all night. Neither did he. Great friends from Stevens Point (Dori & John Jury) were supposed to join me on my walk of 10.5 miles today since I was walking in the area and near the town she grew up in, called Polo IL. I ended up going but went it alone. Another great friend (Carol Holcomb) originally from Point now living in Indiana was going to drive the 3 hours and join us for lunch. That too was canceled The couple from Point ended up taking Ruben home instead of staying so Paige could bring him into the emergency hospital in Wausau in the afternoon. Last nights post hinted that Ruben wasn’t doing the best, and the thought was they would take Ruben back after our days events. The good news is they offered to take me to my starting point so was able to hold Ruben for the first half hour or so. And to top it off we did do a little tour, was able to see her grandfather’s old school house, the house her grandmother lived in, the road that led 2 miles into her home town, and the pasture that’s been in her family for generations. (Picture above) She shared that her 97 (98?) year old mother drove to this land and parked there every week up until her recent death because she loved it so much!! How absolutely cool is that!! Our visit on the route was short but very very sweet. Shed some big tears of gratitude as I hugged them.
To help me through this sad and very hard day, I was absolutely spoiled today by Joan & Clarence. Joan cleaned the RV and my sheets and blankets were freshly washed (Ruben didn’t make it several times). She also made her delicious homemade tuna noodle casserole for dinner. Clarence helped me figure out my Bluetooth speaker, fixed a blown fuse, took care of many other things RV, and at my stopping point had the RV waiting when my walk finished. I’m in incredible hands with these two generous and loving people! The picture below is of their dog Bella watching from the RV as I walked in. That’s today’s pic of the day.
