DAY 70 ~ 11/23/21
WALKED INTO TEXAS!! WE MADE IT!!
What an achievement, walking to Texas. I was floating today. Was so happy to share it with Greg, Clarence and Joan!! It was a very fun morning! We took pictures at our crossing point on the street, the state line government building/Post Office, and also at the highway welcome to Texas sign. This fun lasted almost an hour!! Then it was time to say goodbye to Greg. I was so grateful he was able to be here for this monumental day!! We had a wonderful time together.
For my birthday Paige got me (see pic) a personalized water bottle. I waited until today to share because it’s so cool!!!
The other big milestone we reached today is passing the two thirds through our journey phase!! Only 5 weeks left and 34 more days of walking to reach Port Aransas. I’ve walked 970 miles!!
There was a sheriff in a white van with his flashers on parked in the shoulder. When we passed him he asked if we knew where 3rd St in Texarkana was. I said I’m from Wisconsin and that we walked here from there. He couldn’t believe it. His phone wasn’t working so I pulled it up on my phone and helped him with the directions. Felt good to be of service to those who spend their lives in service.
Another car pulled up and asked Joan if we were OK as I was talking to the sheriff. The gentleman who was the passenger seemed to be hiding his head. Maybe he was sick? Maybe he didn’t want to be seen by the sheriff? I guess we’ll never know. It was still very nice for him to stop and make sure we were OK!
The radio interview this morning went really well. I don’t know whether I’ll get a copy of it yet but if I do I’ll share it.
I have another potential radio interview tomorrow but have to call in and may or a may not get through. I’ll keep you posted.
My feet need to get me through this last leg. The slope/slant of the highways/roads are causing some heal discomfort in my right foot. The highway today was extra slanty so it’s irritated more tonight than usual. It’s like a bruise. I rub it into a bunched up blanket to give it a soft tissue massage that feels wonderful. And after a good nights rest, I’m ready to go again the next morning. Bring on tomorrow!
