DAY 46 ~ 10/30/21
We actually crossed over into Arkansas today!! Since we were on a gravel road when we did, there was no sign. We well be getting a picture tomorrow morning on our way back to our starting point!!
We did a total of 16.2 miles today. The morning started off with a wrong turn. It was labeled the exact same (142 E/21 S) however, we didn’t know it, but there was another one labeled the exact same way further up the road. Well proceeding ahead again not knowing, we got through Doniphan and realized that the road we were on didn’t continue on as 21 S, which our route said it was going to. I even check my compass app regularly to make sure we are traveling south so thought we were doing good until that point. Then a man in a truck, Martin Monfee, pulled over as we were stopped on the road trying to figure it out to ask if we were okay. We asked where 21 S was and once he explained, we knew we had walked a quite a ways out of our way. He offered to give us a ride to get us back to that route and for the first time of the journey we actually said yes!! As I sit to write todays journal entry, I still can’t believe we did that!!
We came to the above water over the road scenario. In order to cross, we each came up with two different ways to do it: Take the uneven rocky path on the left or shoes/socks off and walk through. Can you guess which one of us chose which option? I will share the answer in a picture that will show one of us crossing at the bottom of my writing for todays journal post. See if you can get it right before you look :)
We had killer hills again today. I decided to measure the elevation from the bottom to the top of one and it was a steep climb of 140 feet. It took all we had!
We also had a dog come out of nowhere it seemed, took us by surprise, and joined us for most of the afternoon walk. He literally became part of our family and walked at least 4 miles with us!!
It’s the last night of the music festival here at our RV park. The music went on until after 3 AM last night. I had earplugs in but still woke up quite often because it is quite loud. We are here one more night and am looking forward to the quiet tomorrow!!
I’m getting in touch with feelings of hitting a wall. I know it’s not a wall too high for me to climb, but it does feel like an uphill battle that just doesn’t seem to be easing up in the effort required to keep up this pace every day. I trust it’s probably just being tired after an extra challenging walk day, and will wake up tomorrow ready to go!!
I really appreciate all the positive support from all of you out there. I do feel it!! It helps and keeps me going!!
