DAY 42 - 10/26/21
Was a great day to walk. Beautiful sunny blue sky with low 60s as a temp. When we started walking it was only 45° but even that felt nice with low winds and sun. We walked a total of 13.8 miles today.
We passed a herd of cows in the middle of a pasture. As I’ve mentioned before, I talk to all the animals. For the first time, all of them came walking towards the fence, which was quite a ways, and closer to me! It was the coolest thing!
We had a state patrol car stop us on US 67 to ask if we were OK. He told us to be careful. Always nice to know they’re out there and checking up on people!
Once we turned onto State Highway A, almost right away, we had two guys stop in their pick up truck. The passenger asked if we were OK. Joan asked if they were hunting and the passenger said they were going back out this afternoon. Then Joan said “Just don’t shoot us”. The passenger said “Oh you must be those types”. Then the driver said “Well you all look like pretty little deer to me”. All I can say is that I sure have stories that will last a lifetime!
Shortly there after a woman stopped from the traffic going with us side and asked if we were OK. We told her the story. She said she had seen the RV back where it was parked and wished us luck. She seemed really interested and asked a few questions. She drove off then turned around and passed us again. She must have seen us, came back for us and then had to turn around again. I’m amazed at how many people actually do that!! So kind.
Not too long there after another two guys with a truck from the MO DOT stopped. They asked if we were just out walking. They also had seen the RV and read the back of it so they thought we might belong to it. They told us to be safe as this highway gets a lot of traffic and people are crazy around curves.
In just a short amount of time we had so much kindness. Just never ceases to amaze me that people go out of their way to make sure you’re safe and to see if you need help. I’m truly touched.
I worked another 3 hours this afternoon. Still have quite a list to finish. We have short walking days these next two days so I will be able to spend those afternoons getting completely caught up hopefully.
Joan made dinner tonight, her goulash hot-dish and garlic bread. She finished it with Reese‘s peanut butter cookies fresh baked in our toaster oven. She is truly a gem!
