DAY 37 ~ 10/21/21

It was another perfect weather day. Joan and I walked a total of 13.4 miles today. The last 4 miles was the most stressful patch of road we’ve been on to date. There was no shoulder and the ditch was sloped drastically which made it very difficult to step off the road when cars passed by. It was also very hilly with many curves, and with that and the wind, it was hard to see and hear when cars were coming so they sometimes were suddenly there and we had to be quick to get off the road. We managed really well as a team by being in four alarm fire mode!

We took a ferry across the Mississippi and said goodbye to Illinois. I still can’t believe I walked through the entire state of Illinois! We had lunch in a very cute town called Saint Genevieve. It is actually the oldest permanent settlement in Missouri.

Hard to believe we are already 75 miles south of St. Louis! Paige did an awesome job doing SAG wagon, giving the RV a break by bringing us to and from our starting, ending points and lunch spots. So grateful she was here for so many days with me!!

Tonight is Paige’s last night here. We had a nice dinner at a French restaurant in downtown St. Louis called Vin de Set. Loved the atmosphere inside. It was in a really cool area called Lafayette Square and was in a really historic brick hotel.
