DAY 81 ~ 12/4/21

Joan and I walked a total of 14.6 miles today. It was again on beautiful Texas farm roads with wonderful forest on both sides.

Right off the bat we passed some men working and they asked where we were walking to. I said to Port Aransas and Joan added that we started from Wisconsin. One of the guys said Wisconsin? Wisconsin?

Yeah right. He literally laughed each time he said it. We told him the story and I think in the end it finally sunk in. He just couldn’t believe it!!

We went through the town of Rusk and walked right by Rusk Elementary School. The grounds had several feel good yard signs made up. I thought it was wonderful. I snapped a pic of my favorite!

After todays walk I have officially crossed the 1,100 miles walked mark!! We also have reached over 75% completion and only have 23 days of walking left to reach Port Aransas!! Seems so hard to believe!!

It’s a good thing this is winding down as my heel is acting up again. After rest this afternoon and evening it is much better but I know it’s there. It feels like a slight bruise and like that over used tired feeling after standing on your feet all day. Well duh that’s kinda what I’m doing isn’t it!! And I was really sluggish today. I guess these 1,100 miles are taking a toll on my body! I’m still wearing the inserts and using the walking poles, so it must just be the wear and tear of a sloped shoulder for so many of the miles. Oh and all the hills. Texas has some darn big hills!!
