DAY 83 ~ 12/6/21

Joan and I walked a total of 14.2 miles today. It was a cooler and very windy day. At least the wind was at our backs!! There were some pretty good hills too.

My feet felt good until the last mile or so. I’m very thankful! They must hold up!!

Joan and I started off this morning without really checking in on our directions. We never do that. We each have a copy of today’s route but for some reason we were asleep at the wheel. We both just confidently thought the turn was to the right. I even checked my compass at the start and we were going west so that sounded right to me. Little did I know that shortly there after the road turned at a big curve and we actually ended up going north! I never checked the compass again and should have! It wasn’t until 1.8 miles down the road we realized at a crossing that we had been going the wrong way. So we trekked the 1.8 miles back to the beginning to start all over again.

Today’s error added 3.6 additional miles to the miles needed to reach Port Aransas. That’s not the first time we’ve added to the original 1,440 miles Google says it takes. We added a little over a mile for making an executive decision awhile back not to walk down what google said was a road but was just a field with deer stands running up and down it. Since it was during the middle of hunting season, we thought the extra mile was a no brainier. And there was one other time we missed our turn and Clarence texted shortly after. He rerouted us which only added a half mile. So now instead of it being 1440 miles, this trek is 1445 lol. There have been a few other mixups but the miles were either a wash or made up by moving ahead, like the day we accepted a ride from Martin, a total stranger, because we had gone so far in the wrong direction. We could not have found nor been able to get back to the route otherwise! There have been several more miles walked when adding getting off the road for potty breaks, getting to the RV when it’s slightly off the route etc. So all in all not too bad for being 77 off 99 days in!!
