DAY 31 ~ 10/15/21

The day began with Clarence playing a song on the RV sound system and as it began he announced “Ok new Adele single”. Wow it was amazing. The song is called “Go Easy On Me”.

Joan and I walked 16.1 miles today. I was really dragging this morning. Once I got going I was good but the last few miles were tough. Walked through Sawyerville, Staunton, Worden, and ended in Hamel. Loved walking through the small city streets. We spent the first 5-6 miles on State Route 4 again, then walked on a trail most of the rest of day. That was really nice. We needed a break from traffic!! We missed a few turns and the trail just ended with no signage a few times which cost us maybe an extra half or so mile in trash miles. In Hamel, one of the times the trail just abruptly ended, it veered us directly to Weezy’s Bar. Oops!! Had an Octoberfest and fried cauliflower with cheese sauce that really hit the spot!

We had a few encounters on the trail. One was a sweet man who walks 3 miles every day. He told us three years back he had a heart attack on this trail. He told the doctors to just get him back walking the trail, that that’s all he needs!! The second was a young man backpacking. He was en route to Michigan from St Louis. Guess we’re not the only crazy ones!!!

Joan made us Salisbury steak and veggies tonight for dinner. I’m so grateful for her home cooking!!
