DAY 63 ~ 11/16/21
Joan and I walked a total of 15.3 miles today. The morning portion was all gravel country roads. Two adorable donkeys walked up to us letting us pet them. Loved that!! The Google route actually wanted to take us down a grassy unmarked not even a road section that looked like hunters row with deer stands everywhere. We said no way to that since it’s deer hunting season. The second route option added 1.3 miles to the day but we thought better to be safe than sorry!!!
This afternoon we walked through Arkadelphia and crossed the beautiful Ouachita River.
It’s hard to believe but after todays walk, we’ve crossed the 9 week mark and completed 60% of the journey. Un freaking believable!! I’ve walked over 880 miles so far. So close to 900….then before you know it, I’ll cross the 1,000 mile mark. No way!!!
A young woman in a truck stopped us on the gravel road we were walking on and asked if we were just out leisurely walking or if we needed a ride. We told her we were walking to Texas. Because we hadn’t shared the doing it by choice, for charity, for my mother part yet, she said well get in! That’s adorable! Once we shared the rest of the story she understood and asked if we needed anything like water or supplies. What a sweetheart!!
There were very few hills today, maybe three total, thank goodness. Hopefully that continues. The next 5 days are almost all on AR 67 South. Might not have many stories or pictures? But then again who knows until we see what the miles bring. Lots of smiles I hope!
